AWANA - Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed
One of the most active ministries at First Baptist church is the AWANA Club which meets
each Wednesday night throughout the school year. AWANA is a Christ-Centered
organization for boys and girls from ages 3 through sixth grade. The word AWANA stands
for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed and comes from 2 Timothy 2:15. “Study to
show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly
dividing the word of truth.” AWANA’ mission is to see boys and girls come to know
Christ as their savior, be grounded in the Word of God, and be trained to serve Christ.
In order to minister more effectively to our youngest boys and girls, the AWANA program
is divided into seven clubs. They are:
- Cubbies - Preschool boys and girls
- Sparks - Boys and girls in kindergarten, first grade, second grade
- Pals - Boys in third and fourth grade
- Chums - Girls in third and fourth grade
- Pioneers - Boys in fifth and sixth grade
- Guards - Girls in fifth and sixth grade
AWANA is divide into three parts. They are council time, workbook time and games.
During council time each week a practical Scriptural lesson is taught.

and learn how to apply the Scripture to their lives.
